Venice Etchings

Jenny Sanders' original etchings, hand-printed in colour

Venice is a city I love and visit regularly. I love the slow pace of life, dependent on walking and moving about on boats. I love the constant presence of water which reflects the light, moves with the tides, sounds reassuring, and sometimes wets your feet.

Everywhere there are wonderful ancient buildings with complex details and peeling textures and soft colours. These, too, change from year to year as they decay and are renovated. Every square and bridge is different, and the lives of the inhabitants change with the seasons.

When I visit, I spend much of my time making ink drawings and sketches to capture a particular place and moment. Some of these sketches I use to develop etching plates.
